PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a nation-wide ministry whose purpose is to reach out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy.

The St. Bernard's Prayer Shawl Ministry meets the second Thursday of the month, from September through June, from 9:30 - 11:30am. in the church hall. Our members crochet or knit prayer shawls, lap robes, and pocket prayer shawls at home and also work on them during our meetings. The completed prayer shawls are blessed and sprinkled with holy water by a priest or deacon, after which they are ready to be freely given away. At our meetings, we share our joys and concerns and pray for those mentioned.

Prayer shawls may be given for various reasons and occasions including to those who are ill or suffering in any way and to those celebrating milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, graduations, etc. Each Blessed Sacrament Parish bride is given a prayer shawl at her wedding rehearsal. We have donated prayer shawls and lap robes to several rehabilitation and cancer centers. Each prayer shawl is a reminder of God's unconditional love, encouragement, inspiration, and always hope for the future. All are welcome. To request a prayer shawl or lap robe, please call Mary at 860-926-4554 or Kathy at 860-430-0659.
