Consolation & Bereavement Ministries

Consolation Ministry

The consolation ministry works to provide comfort to families and honor the faith of loved ones who have passed on. Specifically, ministers bring consolation, on behalf of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, to those grieving the death of a loved one and assist them in planning the funeral Mass. We work closely with family members to select readings and music that meet the needs of each family while upholding the sanctity of the Mass. With Jesus as our model, we lovingly accept each family as they are and offer them the hope of our faith for their loved one who has died.

Bereavement Support Program

Living through grief is not easy but it does not have to be done alone.  Blessed Sacrament Parish offers a 9-week support program called, “New Day”, for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  The goal of this program is to provide a sense of community where support is given and received. Because of the nature of the support group, it is limited to a minimum of 6  persons and a maximum of 9. It is recommended it has been at least 6 months since the loss.

The “New Day” program is led by trained facilitators and includes prayer, discussion, and journaling.  Although this program is a faith-based, it is not restricted to Catholics and all are welcome.  In order to accommodate individual needs, the group size is limited to a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 9 persons.  It is recommended it has been at least 6 months since the loss.

The program is normally run in the Fall and in the Spring.  The length of the individual sessions is approximately an hour and a half.

The next support group for those bereaved 6 months or more will start on October 7th through December 9th (No meeting on November 25th). The group will meet each Tuesday from 10:15 am to 11:45 am in the St. Bernard Parish Center.

Registration is required. We encourage early sign-up as space is limited.

The deadline to register is October 5th.
