Consolation and Funeral Planning Guidance

Consolation and Funeral Planning Guidance:

Involving family members in funeral Mass decisions fosters a supportive environment and allows for a personalized remembrance of the loved one who has passed on.  In that spirit, members of the Blessed Sacrament Parish consolation ministry work closely with family members to assist in planning the funeral Mass. Family members are encouraged to select readings and music that reflect their loved one's preferences and desires, while upholding the sanctity of the Mass.  Family members may select the first and second readings along with the Gospel passage to be read and may choose up to four hymns to be included in the Mass.

Please see the links below for the readings as well as music selections for St. Bernard and St. Matthew churches.

One First Reading from the New or Old Testament

One Second Reading from the New Testament

One Gospel Reading

St. Bernard's Music Selections

St. Matthew's Music Selections

Families may also choose to designate someone to share some Words of Remembrance at the end of Mass.  These optional brief remarks - no longer than five minutes - must also be appropriate for Mass.

We understand that it is common for families to feel overwhelmed by grief and/or the responsibility of making funeral arrangements.  If family members would rather not make any choices about readings and/or music for the funeral Mass, the consolation ministers are willing to make those selections.

Consolation ministers will contact families to help with the arrangements.
